Here is the deal,

My boss bought a new computer that had Office 2007 installed with Vista. He didn't like any of the fancy new POS features that came with either Vista or Office 2007 so he asked me to put XP and Office 2003 on the computer. I have finished with all the installation and am now to the point of coppying all his email settings from Outlook 2007 over to Outlook 2003. This is where i haven't a clue. I don't use Outlook at all and am having trouble figuring out how to export all the settings from 2007 with all the archive emails and history and then importing thim into 2003.

I have already found the directories with the settings and archives in vista but is it just a matter of coppying them and pasting them

Any help please?

I don't know if thats possible. I'm thinking Outlook 2007 would use different formats for all the files (Like Word, Excel etc.). You normally don't "downgrade" so it's probably not really supported.

Doesn't Outlook 2007 basically look the same anyways?

Yah it isn't so mutch the fact that Outlook is different but since he is going to be using XP and Office 2003 regularly instead of Vista and Office 2007 it is a hassle to move back and forth between the two operating systems just to check his email.

search his windows profile folder for .PST files, those are the email folders outlook uses, make backups of them. then try to import them to outlook 2003

it might work, but im still pretty sure outlook 2003 uses a new pst format. though you may be able to export them to an office 2003 pst

Thats what i had tried at the start but you are right, the .pst file from 2007 isn't compatable with 2003.

yeah MS screwed everything up with Office2007

your going to have to export everything

What i used to do (As exporting always seems to go wrong for me)

Make an outlook folder somewhere
Make all his inbox and custom directories (or any directories with emails in)
go into said directories, select all the emails and drag them to the correct folders
You now have a bunch of folders with all the emails in, go into your new email client and drag them back in

Its pretty slow, and inn efficient, but it works, although you lose the account settings, pretty easy to set them up again
Otherwise, i think you want to try and export as a PST or something ? see what options there are, try them out, see what works

well........i wouldnt say they messed that up in office 07........because outlook 07 can import pst files from 03 and use them in their original 03 format. so that if you decide 07 isnt for you yet, you can revert to outlook 03 with your existing pst files

my question, is what did he have before, why did he start fresh with outlook 07?

anyway, are you able to export the messages to csv? it might not maintain formatting or attachments. there's probly another thing you can export them too. im not sure right now, id need to play with it, havent touched outlook in a bit
