Hey all,

First of all let me say I know very little about CD and DVD drives other than from usual day to day use. When I was putting my PC together i connected a CD burner and a DVD burner with the intention of being able to read from one and burn to the other. As neither came with driver discs i assumed you connect them up and they should be recognised and work fine.

This is where the problems start. While they both read discs without problems it is another story with burning discs. At the moment i can only use the windows CD burner wizard thing. I cant even use the iTunes CD burner as it says "disc burner or software not found." Do CD and DVD drives need further software support than I am aware of?

As i mentioned I know little about this area so a quick explanation of what drivers are necessary and whether I need to have 3rd party burning software etc would be appreciated.

Thanks for any help

CD and DVD ROM drives and writers do not need any drivers, as they are natively supported by windows. I do not use Itunes so im not sure why it asks for another program. When you purchase new drives they usually come with some burning software suite, well at least all the ones that i have bought even OEM parts. Windows XP has CD Burning support, but not DVD. Windows Vista does both. You will need to buy a Burning Suite like Nero, or Roxio so that you can use your DVD burner
