Greetings........

I've had this registry problem before with XP I believe, and resolved it by entering the following infor off the Microsoft website into the Windows Start box and hitting enter which brought up a popup which stated the item was fixed...... with Vista it doesn't work.

IE 7 is set as my default web browser. Does anyone have a suggestion?

RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, follow these steps:1. Click Start, click Run, type the following command in the Run dialog box, and then click OK:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

2. Repeat step 1 for each of the following commands:

regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 browseui.dll
regsvr32 msjava.dll

The problem is not only effecting hyperlinks, but also my receiving email.

maybe check the security settings in outlook and make sure its allowing you to click on links in you're email

stlous just said to check security settings in outlook, did you do that?

Yes, done it's still a problem. I'm thinking it's got to be registry related but I'm not that familiar enough with it that I want to screw about with it and perhaps make matters worse.

do u have all your windows updates? theres several fixes available for office 03 to work properly in vista

you might need to enable windows update to get updates for other products, or enable microsoft update as they call it

Vista and Office are completely up to date.....

how long have you had vista? you could take up your 90 day support, call vista support, and let them transfer you to office support, that we they can't bill you for support because you were transferred from another queue ;)

It's been roughly 6 months now....... I should have stuck with XP, the hindsight revelation comes back to bite me again.

As I mentioned before, I'm not sure whether the problems is registry or office related...... my problem about calling around to MS is that I live in France and speak little to no French and MS techical support here doesn't speak English.

i see how that could be a problem........tried reinstalling outlook? or re-creating the outlook profile?

back when i supported outlook, i remember re-creating alot of profiles before everything else

unless this has been a problem from the get go with vista and outlook?

OK.... I managed to get the hyperlinks working just using the regsvr32 urlmon.dll entry and immediately doing a reboot. However I still have the email problem...... the Enter Network Password box keeps popping up even though I never changed anything. Any suggestions on this one, or do you still think I should do an Outlook reinstall?

is this computer on a domain at all? are you on an exchange server account attached to a network login? on vpn, anything like that? some details on your setup there might help us help you

if not.....i would be trying to reinstall outlook at this point honestly, but it could be os related too........you know how MS likes to tie their programs into their OS. can't blame them, saves rebuilding code everytime. but....

Update..... Uninstalled and rebooted afterwards twice with no change in the email situation.

Looking for other options and/or suggestions.

well, if its standalone

when you reinstalled it, was the emil account recreated, did it ask for you're info again, or did it just reuse the old settings?

if it remade it, its not an issue in the outlook profile

i wonder if its related to IE.........

try going into internet options, either by right clicking on IE and choose properties, or from within the control panel, you cant do it from ie because ie will need to be close

on the general tab, hit delete.... and then delete all, including settings stored by addons

then on the security tab, reset all zones to default, the buttons at the bottom

now on the privacy tab, set cookies to default

then on the content tab, hit clear ssl state

then go to the advanced tab, restore defaults, and then hit the reset button

thats gonna set IE to default settings, and disable addins, they can be re-enabled or reinstalled later, which ever suits you

if that doesnt do it, which im not sure those settings are even related, but something to try for $hits and giggles at this point right. but if it doesnt do anything, create a new user account on the computer, log off, and log into the new test account, see if it works there

you might also clean boot the system, go into msconfig, disable everything on the startup tab. then on the services tab, hide the MS services, and disable everything left. then reboot. that'll eliminate something 3rd party interfering with outlook. which reminds me........what security software do you have? firewall, antivirus, any kind of spyware or privacy stuff? anything.

but getting an enter network password box seems to me that something within the security protocols or layer or whatever it might be called could be fried, that could be more an OS issue, and with vista its impossible to reinstall components right like you can do in XP. vista's SP1 may change that, but thats not going to help right now. which reminds me, you never answered my other question whether this has been an issue with outlook and vista from the get go or if it was working before and then stopped

Thanks for the reply...

I tried most of what you suggested to no avail and at that point I was at the end of the rope. I ended up calling my ISP in Canada to find out what the @#$% was going on at their end as it didn't appear to be anything at my end. It turns out my profile on their server had been corrupted causing the problem.
They fixed the problem and now everything is working fine.

Again... many thanks for your help.
