View Full Version : no more Gigabyte P35 DQ6 boards?
are there no more DQ6 boards from Gigabyte?, are they discontinued?.. i can't seem to find them anymore. it's only been out for a few months, i can't believe this.
With the arrival of X38 chipset, i dont think gigabyte needed the P35 DQ6. The P35 DQ6 is intended to be high-end motherboard in the absence of X38....... now the new king had arrived, the regent had to step down
yeah but not everyone is ready to shell out $250 price tag.
Our Gigabyte supplier no longer lists the P35-DQ6 in their November price list either.
Shame really, as I've seen no real advantage to the X38 unless you run crossfire. The P35 was cheaper than both the 965P and X38 by $100AUD. Of all the systems we've ever had, the P35-DQ6 is the best overclocker, most stable, and best overall motherboard.
I haven't seen any reviews about the X38-DQ6 that would persuade me to buy one... yet.
I was looking at this mobo due to a very nice continuing thread at guru3d based on this mobo and overclocking quads. It was looking very promising. I hope that the X38 version is as inexpensive and as good a stable and far reaching mobo as the previous when it comes to quads.
The X38 should be every bit as stable as it's basically the same chipset with memory enhancements and full x16 lanes for crossfire. But as inexpensive, probably not. The P35-DQ6 came out cheaper than the 965P-DQ6, and IMO is a better board. Unfortunately Gigabyte isn't known for dropping prices much. They just discontinue a line and move on to the next.
The P35s (DS3P and DQ6) boot a E6750 at 513FSB (4.1GHz) and Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400 at 1230MHz (2.1v). I think it would do more if the CPU and RAM weren't so close to their limits.
My 965P-DQ6 won't boot at that speed, and won't get much over 4.0GHz with EasyTune with the same components. I can only boot the 965P up to 485FSB.
I love this MB. I booted to this:

Do us a favor drop your RAM and CPU multipliers and find the boards max FSB frequency. Might do it on my 965P-DS3 just for kicks, though every review I've read on it has 480 as the limit for this and the DQ6.
Once again the instant email reply failed. :s
Sorry, I didn't know you'd replied PCgeek. I can't drop the RAM enough to see what the motherboard will do. With the latest BIOS, it only goes down to x2 and gives the result I posted above. I'd need better RAM to go any higher, and that's just not going to happen anytime soon.
I think the early BIOS was only capable of around 480FSB. But the later BIOS's blow that away easily on both the DS3P and DQ6. Too bad no one ever updates their reviews when a new BIOS is released. :s
