I'm working on my first build. I have all the hardware hooked up and everything is goimg smooth, however as I was trying to install vista home premium I get a window that pops up saying that it can't find drivers for the HD, its an OEM 250 SATA II from western digital.

I looked on their website but the way they have it set up it might as well be in greek to me. could I just have missed an important step in the process, do I have to do anything important in the bios or boot screen? I don't really know what I'm doing but I know that the comp did see the HD on startup.

Any ideas people? I scavanged the watercooler from my old comp so I'm on my folks comp at the moment, and having gone the last 15 months without playing any video games I have the itch to play.

See if you had a little 3.5 disc that came with your motherboard. Sometimes drivers for SATA drives are not already on the motherboard... and until they used, the mobo flat out doesn't see the drive at all. During the windows setup it will ask you to press F4 or something like that if you need to run any drivers for a HDD. Do that, then continue to your install of Vista. Should be fine then.

Vista shouldn't have any issues seeing the hard drive.

Maybe try updating the BIOS and then Load Setup Defaults or whatever it's called in the BIOS.

Are you sure your hard drive is plugged in correctly?
If you touch it while the computer is on, does it feel like its spinning?
Does it show up in the BIOS?

its showing up in the bios, the motherboard did come with a cd, but the owners manual says not to use it until after installing windows.

I'm pretty sure its hooked up right, seems pretty fool prrof to me, would it matter if its in bank 0 or bank 1? I put it so its in 1 and the optical drive is in 5

should I have to put any jumpers on it? it didn't come with any but I have a big bag of them floating around here.

ok so I was able to get the drivers for the HD to be used, but then it would ask for the optical drive's drivers, but its a plug and play device. I get it to see the optical drive but then it doesn't see the HD again. this is really confusing, I just want to play games.
