Alright, so i have an old SOYO KT400Ultra mobo and i'm trying to add a new hard drive. Right now i have my two original HD plugged into the IDE1 Slot (primary and slave) and then I have my two cd drives plugged into IDE2 Slot (primary slave) and now i'm trying to add one HD. The mobo has 4 IDE slots, so i plugged it into the IDE3 slot and no dice. What the hell am i doing wrong. Any suggestions would be great.

SOYO KT400 Ultra site (http://soyo.com/product/AMD_Athlon_XP/35/SY-KT400_DRAGON_Ultra/146)

Under my computer it's showing an extra CD drive, which i suspect is the new HD.

ah i'm an idiot. The unknown cd drive was a virtual drive. So nevermind. Not sure why my IDE3 isn't working. IDE4 isn't either. I tried plugging the cd drives to the ide3 and 4 and still no dice. AH POOP

You may have to enable those other IDE ports either in the BIOS or by a jumper on the motherboard as it sounds like they're on their own controller.

Check your manual and see.

Those extra IDE ports on the motherboard are probably for RAID, which may only work if you have the RAID controller enabled ... and then the drivers may have to be loaded as well ... as jdrom said, check your manual ... BTW, that is an OLD mobo ... almost bought one ... many, many years ago ... :p
