I finally decided to build a new computer but there are way too many choices for 775 mothersboards. Too bad there isn't a clear cut performance monster like the dfi nf4 ultra-d for 939. I am thinking about choosing between the following:

ASUS P5E X38
Abit IX38
DFI LanParty LT X38 (not sure if it is worth the wait)
DFI LanParty UT P35-T2R

I was just wondering what everyone's opinion is on the best board. I am going to be using it with a Q6600 with watercooling. Thanks for the help and suggestions.

Well first of all, don't count on the UT version from DFI ... they declared it dead before they shipped it ... there was not much of a difference between the two other than the heatpipe that was going to be used on the UT. The price was a little more, but the performance was not going to be there, so they decided to stay with the LT, which BTW, I have and I do like it very much. I just ordered the Q6600 last night to which that will go on the X38 board from DFI. I think though, unless you have had considerable experience with DFI boards in the past, this board is NOT for the uninitiated to Overclocking. That said, the guys over at XtremeSystems (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=166338)
have found that the BIOS settings for this board is VERY EXTENSIVE , more so than the other boards you're considering. The ASUS will get high speeds about as well as the DFI, but with a lot less fiddling around. But with the LT X38, the adjustments available for the memory timing are out of this world! :woot: I don't know about the ABIT board, I haven't yet looked into that one. Maybe Avid will have a comment on that board. I am a DFI man myself, so I would recommend that one, but as I always say to everyone, you will end up going with your gut and in the end, you have to live with your final decision ... Check out the link and see what those guys say ... I happen to be in on that thread as well ... :p

PS: The one good thing about all of these boards right now is that they are all using DDR2 RAM ... and that stuff is so cheap now ... so get QUALITY RAM and one of these babies and I am sure you'll have the same fun as I am right now ... :)
