My main computer connects to the Internet via a wireless adaptor and a wireless router.

I'd like it set up so that PC's I'm working one (next to it) can get Internet via a crossover cable to my PC's NIC.

This is where it all went horribly wrong because I know nothing about networking.

I ran the network setup wizard on the test PC, selected "This PC connects to the Internet via a residential hub or another PC on the network"

I made a network disk on my flash drive and ran it on my PC, and selected the already highlighted option which read something like "This PC connects directly to the internet and another PC(s) connect through it"

restarted both Pc's, and....

My PC can no longer connect to the Internet, it just sits there saying "Aquiring network address" while the cable connection says "connected" but the connection on the test machine says "limited or no connectivety!"

I've run through the network troubleshooter and got nowhere!

Can anyone help me please?

On the computer with the Internet connection, you'll want to bridge the Wireless and Wired connection. You do this by selecting both, right click, bridge.

Then I believe you should have access on your other computer...

the way ive done it, right click the ethernet apapter that you are going to connect the other computer into, in network connections, and then right click an go to properties, then head over to the advanced tab and and select ICS, Internet Connection Sharing. then you should be able get internet from it, and i believe a regular patch cable works fine

But he has a router already so ICS won't really work I think...

Stone fox, have you figured out your problem? Is your router that is connected to the Internet have extra LAN ports? Why not just run a patch cable from one of those?

No, it's still pissing me off! Although I've not tried much yet.

The problem is, the Router is in a another room.

Incidentally, the first thing I tried was bridging, by selecting the two connections on the networks window, right clicking and hitting 'bridge'

And both connections ceased to function! :(

it would work, but its terrible - doubt Natting (assuming your ISP doesn't NAT) is baaaad

Anyway, selecting both connections and bridging should work, you may need to check the brides settings, make sure its using DHCP and that jazz, it should work fine
