View Full Version : Complicated Tax Question.
I am not quite sure what to do here when I get my W2 and start filing my taxes.
Here is the situation. I lived in VA for half of 2007, and SC for half of 2007. Even though I now reside in SC, the company I work for is located back in VA.
I'm a little confused as to whether I file taxes in VA or SC? Has anyone been in this situation before?

I am assuming both states have income tax, right?
Depending on the amount you earned in either state, if one has a minimum income required, then you might not have to file if your income was under their req. minimum ... make any sense?

It does, except how would I know how much I made in each state? Will that be on my W2 you think?
Take the easy way out. Pay an independent tax professional to do it for you (not one that charges a percentage of your return, one that charges a flat rate).
The tax guy we use has gotten my dad and me much more money than Turbo Tax ever did. If there's a problem, liability falls on him. He only charges $50 to do our taxes. There's bound to be someone in your area who could help.

Screw H&R Block, they always charge a lot. Just pick up your local phone book, flip to the yellow pages, and start calling people.

My tax guy just charges based on how much paper work there's going to be. I just have one income, and no investments or anything of that nature, so I only pay $30. I could easily do it myself, I know how, but my dad always goes to the same guy and it's just easier lol.

Well, in about a year or so, if you hear a "rat-a-tat-tat" on your front door, and you peek out the window and they are wearing suits, then you know it's obvious we misinformed you.
