Alright, so ive finally had enough of my P5k and its random failures (a sata port died, and my gfx card covers 2, so that leaves me with 3 and i need 4....). so ive been looking at the dfi x38, and conviently when i decied i wanna get it, i cant find it in stock.... i would perfer to avoid Asus, ive also been eyeing the evga 780i board. but at all costs i want to avoid heat pipes and that is why i love the dfi board, cause dfi knows heat pipes suck especially when your case mounts your mobo inverted. So yea any suggestions or comments would be nice

Chris I think you know that I have that DFI X38 board, right? I got it when it first came out, actually special order it form MotherboardPro (http://www.motherboardpro.com/) ... have you checked them out?

It's an awesome board and I think the best is still to come when DFI launched their X48 board later this year ... that'll be the board I get when I go to DDR3 ... I haven't checked MoBoPro yet for the X38 board, but they sold out within days after they got them ... hopefully they have been able to get some more in ...

Motherboardpro is where i was looking to buy it, they have had them in stock for quite some time now, up until now, the board has taken a significant price drop since its release, its 249 now which is a price im willing to pay for it. Does anyone know why newegg has never carried this board?

I never knew why myself, but I did buy the DFI BloodIron (P35 Infinity) from the 'Egg ... could be that the price was too high for them to make any money? Or they couldn't get enough to have a minimum stock for selling ... IDK for sure ... but I got X38 board for $289 which included free shipping ... from the fine folks at MoBoPro ... :p

The ASUS Maximus Formula is rather nice too. Probably around the same price.

There's also the ASUS P5E, which is a Maximus Formula underneath, just with a few less features. I believe Avid has this one.

oh lol, didn't catch that...

Well then, DFI or Gigabyte are your best bets.

But still, those ASUS boards are good :p I had bad experiences with my P5N-E SLI but that didn't stop me as all my previous boards have been ASUS as well, all the way back to the P3 450MHz, which still runs to this day. Execpt for this one time when I bought a Soyo board with an AMD CPU at TigerDirect, but that Soyo board died soon after and was replaced by an ASUS.

I'd second that in a heartbeat ... though I prefer DFI ... a little tricky at first, but what a performer once you get them dialed in! :woot:

the reason i want to avoid asus is that this is the 5th time i am going to be RMA'ing this one board.

My previous board was a DFI LP and it was amazing!
