I was looking at this one last night at Fry's.
I think I spent well over 30mins looking it over amongst others.
I will be running either the E8400 or Q6600.
Yay? nay?

Also while I was there they told me of a new Intel cpu arriving in about a month...maybe 2 or longer. A Q9450?

Nay.
NVIDIA + Intel = Bad IMO. Unless you honestly need SLI, I'd avoid NVIDIA.
When I put in my X38, everything just went so smoothly. I was surprised I didn't have to mess around with a ton of settings and hardware combinations just to get the thing to POST.
i just got the E8400 wolfdale check out my thread

To my understanding, there really was not much of a change coming from the 680i to the 780i. Only real differences are support for 45nm, pci-e 2.0, and higher speed memory supported. Both chipsets perform practically the same, although the 780i draws more power and thus runs hotter I would assume. This is due to the extra chipset that adds support for more PCI-E lanes. I read somewhere that 680i supporting 45nm wasn't the chipset's fault, but the physical board itself not being made to support the new processors. Don't know if that is true or not, but a great reason to come out with a "new" chipset for people to spend their hard earned money on.

Personally, these boards have caught my eye.
DFI LanParty's (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010200280%2050001307%201070509908&bop=And&CompareItemList=N82E16813136043%2CN82E16813136045)
You get the DFI name at a pretty decent price. Unless you plan on going with ATI cards any time soon, the P35 board would suit you just fine I would think.

I have told him that about the DFI boards for some time now ... I should know, I have use DFI for years now ... but I'd get the LT X38 board because of the 8-phase PWM ... it is far better ... and it also comes with a very decent NB chipset cooler ... DFI's X38 LT Lanparty (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813136042)
Great overclocking board and BTW, check out the customer reviews on that board ... :D

So expensive though...at least for me. I'm perfectly fine with my highest overclock of 3.9Ghz on a board that was roughly $110 cheaper than yours :D Does the X38 I linked to not include a NB cooler? It is pictured with the accessories.
check out the customer reviews on that board ...
Comixion, hes got bragging rights and he using them, hurry up with your rig and blow him out of the water! I wanna see him get desperate and set up his snow chilled liquid cooling!

I'm waiting for the 790i boards as I'd like to go SLI just to see what its like :D I also figure I'll be able to do some good with it if I managed to find and buy two of the newer 9800GX2's ;)
dude, i am Effin lovin that X38 DFI board. it doesnt have all those hoekey heatpipe cooling systems. that board is screaming for my CPU n water blocks.
god i would just HATE to have to rebuild this rig again with both cooling loops

Which board did you do that on? Are you running that 24/7? How stable is that OC? I can get my Quaddie up to 3.97GHz, but it won't stay stable for long ... it'll boot in windows, but it won't play Crysis ... :(
Maybe with uber water cooling with a snow chilled radiator with a 90% glycol mixture under industrial strength pressure? ... :D
