lol, don't get the microATX board...or you can kiss overclocking goodbye...for the gigabyte boards, both are p35, but as jdrom has told me, the DS3L doesn't have a RAID controller...so go for the DS3R....and the DFI board i'm sure is fine too...same chipset, respectable brands...to be honest though, the DFI board LOOKS cooler, lol

Don't get the EVGA, it's an nForce motherboard. Unless you really want SLI, steer clear, as any Intel chipset is better.

DFI have been off their game lately. Avid found the new DFI overclocks worse than you'd expect.

Without hesitation, I recommend you get this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131190).

What mobo is in that link Skorp, I'll look it up elsewhere? I cant access that link.

and just where the hell is Hampsterville?;)

You can't access this?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131190

It's the ASUS P5K Premium WiFi/AP. Generally the best P35 motherboard there is.

Hamsterville is England - the French are snails, the Germans are bratwursts, and the English are hamsters.

So you went from mid-priced boards to expensive boards rather quickly...

If your sticking to expensive, the X38 DFI would probably do nicely, assuming you like having 1000000000 options in the BIOS to set ;)

The DS3R is a better choice over the DS3L even if you don't use RAID as it has a slightly larger NB heatsink and what not.

Nothing wrong with that P5K linked either but since you can get a X38 DFI for $10 more, I'd rather the DFI.

That's telling him JD ... I'm away in Anchorage, and Comixion is scheming behind my back to get new stuff ... :)

And Skorp!! Where's Avid's remarks about the DFI's being poor overclockers?!

Dude, didn't he get the new DFI, then return to his ASUS because it overclocked better?

Skorp, that was the P35 chipset he was referring to ... the X38s are a far better product and overclock WAY better!! ... Avid's remarks were made in Oct '07 and I got my DFI LT X38 board sometime in Dec ... I can honestly say that I have had real good results! It's been a little over 5 months since Avid has made any comments regarding DFI motherboards (I think ... ) Here's his original words:LOL....I do like DFI. The only reason I didn't keep their P35 board was that it wouldn't overclock as high as this Asus board. I'm sure it was just my board because I have heard some great overclocking stories. The only thing that I like about the X38 chipset is that it has 32 PCIe lanes.

I also have the DFI BloodIron P35 board and it did fairly well, not a major overclocker, but pretty good nonetheless and worthy of a second look for the price it is at right now!

The ASUS P5E is based off the Maximus Formula (which I have) and it's been nothing but trouble-free usage for me. So I'd recommend it assuming the P5E has the same stability and what not.

But is she gonna treat me nice?;)

The Asus P5E is a great motherboard. I have been using one for some time. It is extremely stable even with all the hell I put it through. It is a bit pricey given the lack of features, but it is solid.

The reason I didn't like the DFI board is because it didn't overclock any better than an Asus board, yet the Asus board had more features. DFI was the only option for the Athlon 64/X2, but they've lost some of their magic. The only DFI board I'd recommend right now is the DFI BloodIron P35 board. It is probably the best value out there when it comes to overclocking on a budget.

I'm a little all over the place with motherboards recently. Been using a P35 DS4 from Gigabyte for a while now.. Whilst it does well, it does handle higher memory clocks than my ABit AW9D-Max did.
Also gives me chance to put stupid volts through the CPU which is always fun :D :p

I told that to Comixion not too long ago ... for the price right now, that board is the one to get ... Thanks for clarifying your statement, Avid ... ;)
