NCIX didn't even process my order till last night(i ordered the same day as the "AKhandyman feel free to shyt your pants" thread...but thank god for express shipping, cause today is d-day...
*drum roll please*

Now, i was surprised at how skinny it was...i thought my VNF4 was skinny...lol

Here's a board shot
http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/386/picture036gr9.jpg
And look!! it matches my HD 3850 :) but due to its skinnyness, makes my 3850 look even bigger...hopefully cable management will be easier than the VNF4 ultra...

I still don't know what to get for a CPU...i'm leaning on the E8200 cause of the price, and i'm not too sure that i'll use the Q6600 to its potential for an extra 70$, plus i want to overclock hardcore, and i don't know if i have the capacity to cool 4 overclocked cores...help me!!!

Mr. Mid-Range strikes again. Even with a mid range budget, you should have a system that performs very well. Congrats :D.

Oh..and I dont see any pic so it must be fake.:p

i think i'm gonna go with a 45nm dual-core...all i do is game, and play internet...when the time comes i can always drop in a quad, but i crunched some numbers, and with all the baby stuff, a Q6600 isn't in my budget...and the E8200 is looking pretty sexy...i just want something that won't bottleneck my GPU as bad as the X2 did...any other suggestions are welcome...thanks for the kudos avid :)

And another one into the DFI fold ... way to go brother Cran ... You'll have fun with that board ... I did ... be careful during your first OC ... the P35 chipset does get a little warm ... ;)
See what it can do and get it where you think you'll be happy with a 24/7 ... I would eventually look into an aftermarket NB heatsink/cooler ... only after you are satisfied with what you can do ... taking the original off voids the warranty and if the board is what you can live with, then get rid of the stock NB heatsink ... I'd get a Noctua NC-U6 with at least a 60mm fan on it ... :thumb:
Nice choice Mr. Mid-Range ... :D
Oh, BTW ... Welcome to DFI !!! :p
Be sure to get the latest Bios

so is a 45nm duo a better choice for my budget/purpose??
i want 3.5ghz
i have an itch, i want to go buy the CPU and RAM right now...i'm wary of the quad, will it be worth it for what i do?? i don't do video or audio mixing...just games and internet...

The E8500 would be a good one ... I am looking at all my options and that one is high on the list ... :)

i'm looking for cheap...mid-range!!!
i have a Q6600 in my NCIX shopping cart...wtf
i'm getting the E8200...if i get the E8400, i might as well get the quad, but i don't think i have a competent enough CPU cooler for an overclocked quad...the E8500 is just ridiculous, considering i'll fly by 3.1ghz in about 20 minutes with the E8200...it's done, i'm buying an E8200 and 2gb OCZ reaper...

Hey Cran, the E8400 , already @ 3.0 is maybe 20 smackers more. (in some places) I been considering it over the Q6600.
I'm a 100% Gamer.
Oh yea..and sometimes I come in here, for whatever reasons.;)

This coming from a man who just posts pics of what he's got and no results!! :p Put your results where your mouth is ;) :-0)

strong statement...Avid always puts his money where his mouth is, and benchmarking results usually follow shortly after...
comixion, in canada, the E8400 is out of stock and and costs 50$ more...i'll take the lower multiplier save myself 50 bucks and still get the same end result, 3.5ghz...obviously with the higher multiplier on the E8400 4ghz should be a cake walk, but i don't think i'll be pushing the CPU that far...

I think he's lacking memory at the moment, so he cant do much if anything at the moment!! :p
I am looking forward to the results I really am :) But again, he's not on the same playing field as us as we have DDR2 and there is a difference between the two for speed... He'll have the edge I'm sure :)
Even more so now he's got two G92's.... Wondering why he never picked up a second GTX to be honest...

You could get the Xeon E3110 which is basically a E8400 for $220 (maybe even less if you pricematch) from NCIX. In stock now too.

I'd go for a quad over any dual core... Regardless of how fast the dual core can go... ;)
-=CrAnSwIcK=-
03-25-08, 06:12 PM
hmm...will the xeon overclock better??
bah, forget it...i already have the E8200 ordered...i don't wanna cancel it and all that...i think i'll be happy with the 8200...again, i'm just looking for a modest overclock...and as silly as it seems, an extra 20$ is pushing my budget...

03-25-08, 06:17 PM
I dont know to be honest... I thought the Xeon was a server based CPU??
-=CrAnSwIcK=-
03-25-08, 06:19 PM
it is, but it's lga775 so it works for desktop too...some xeons i believe use a different socket though...i guess they use their best chips for xeons and so on, but i'm not really concerned...

Either way you got a CPU now and I'm sure it'll be a bit quickier than the X2 you had previously ;)

Lets not talk so bad about X2's until I get mine sold then you can bash 'em all you want.

yeah i did a quick check and the c2d E8400 and xeon E3110 are identical...the E8400's are out of stock so i got the xeon...i spent the extra 20$ for a better multiplier...plus the xeon is actually in stock so i can have it running by the weekend, whereas the E8400 is not in stock, and the E8200 has an ETA of "april"

I cant find an E8400 anywhere. And whats the difference in it and the E3110 you speak of?

Good choice. In theory Xeons have a higher heat limit since they are made for 24/7 usage in servers and are tested a bit stricter.
