basicly a wile ago i got a very cheap mobo in order to connect some old pc parts to build a working pc

http://www.pcchips.com.tw/PCCWeb/Products/ProductsDetail.aspx?MenuID=24&LanID=2&DetailID=343&DetailName=BIOS

sadly it detects my cpu incorectly the system works but the cpu runs vastly slower than it can, i remember hearing that the reason it was so cheap was becuse it had an outdated and problamatic bios but i want to be sure it is the problem

the mobo detects the cpu as a AMD Athlon 1500 when it is acturly a 2200 at a speed of 1350 MHz not 1800 MHz

should i simply update my bios and if so is there any advice or is this as a result of another problem entirely

Update your BIOS if you can. If not, try manually setting the FSB and CPU Multiplier, again if possible.

Your FSB has been set to 266MHz instead of 333MHz. Change it in the BIOS.

Update them using floppy disks. I've seen people update using flash drives, on some motherboard (noteably those with Via chipset), the flash process could go awry and brick'ed your motherboard.

i updated my Asus board with a USB flash drive, worked perfectly well

Bit scary though

Well my Maximus BIOS (2MB), for example, is too large for a floppy disk so that really isn't an option for newer motherboards. Flash drives are fine with me, haven't had any problems yet.

If anything, I'd consider a floppy less reliable than a flash drive, but thats just me.

while i believe the media of a FDD is less reliable, I'm not too convinced by the coding for updating from a flash disk

If we were on EFI these days i would be quite happy, but assembler programs scare me

Well I've made my USB "bootable" so it basically works the same as a floppy disk. I'm not using EZ Flash or whatever.
