Ok, this is the last thread of me worry warting yall for help on a mobo........maybe.
So heres my last question/s.
As you can see Newegg does not have the X48 board I thought of getting.
Question is, is it wise to spend the extra $$ on an X48 based board than an X38?
Also...why is the P35 , which is not PCIe 2.0, priced higher than the X38 in the comparison chart?
No more sweating over this mess now. I'm ordering in the morning.

Well, ive never used DFI but why did you opt out of the Asus one?

To be honest..I'm still open for suggestions.
I'm just trying to hurry up before tomorrow when I have to make my order so I can get it, along with my 8800GTS before the weekend.
I have $600 to spend on both the graphics card and Mobo and was looking at the X38's and X48's. But there is a big price jump not only from the x38-x48 but not that much from the P35 to X38. I would like to be more future proof and grab a PCIe 2.0 if its necessary.

I had a Gigabyte P35 DS4 and it was a good solid overclocker. It was better than my Abit AW9D-max but only with handling higher memory clocks. The bios gave more voltage options which is great for overclocking :)
Personally, I think the X38 would be a good bet but what are you wanting from the board? Are you wanting to go Crossfire or just have a board that will last? If memory serves me right, the X48's are very expensive (not as much as the 790i's I dont think) and I think some take DDR2 and DDR3..
If you read a few of the reviews for the X38's and so on, maybe then that will help you decide on what you want to do :)
I'd go for the GTS myself if I didnt have a GT as the performance increase isnt the biggest between the two and if you get a good GT, you can get very close the GTS's performance :)

What I want is whats best for Nvidia cards.
I'm also using DDR2, so it has to be compatible with DDR2.

03-30-08, 05:19 PM
Sorry I misread or misunderstood what you where after.
I'd guess the X38's are better, but the X48's are meant to be a bit better again at overclocking so it depends on cost.. :)
I'd go gigabyte or Asus by just thinking of some names... I havent heard any other manufactures making outstanding products that i know of...

the Lanparty LT and UT edition is always more expensive...whether it be x38 or P35...
i don't know what each mobo has over the other but i know price wise from left to right (lowest to highest) it goes
DK - LT - UT...
the P35 DK is a lot cheaper than the x38 DK...But if you want PCI-e 2.0 for future proofing, then get the Lanparty DK x38...the LT and UT models have dual LAN, i dunno how dual LAN works, or what advantages it holds, and the UT doesn't have onboard audio...honestly for the average user, i think the best option would the the DK x38....or P35 if you want to save money...
Comixion
03-30-08, 05:27 PM
Yea, I was kinda leaning to the DK x38

03-30-08, 05:32 PM
no. if you are only planning on running one graphics card, then you should focus on FSB overclocking capabilities of the motherboard.
If you are getting DFi I hope that you plan on overclocking, as that is what they are built for...ultimate tweaking.
So. Get the P35 if you are only running one card. The only point of the X38 is if you are running X-fire because it adds in the extra PCI-e x16 slot and does not support SLi. Since you are running one card this is completely unneccessary.
The p35 has the best FBS overclock capas out of all those you posted.

Have you read any of the group tests that Anandtech or X-labs does?? They would probably help you :)

03-30-08, 05:37 PM
it also supports PCI-e 2.0...as it stands his GTS won't use all the bandwidth, but for future upgrades at least he's got it...who knows maybe next gen graphics cards will be bandwidth hogs...it's really up to him though...i tried to get him to buy the DK P35 last week but he wasn't having it...

Here's the deal. The X38 is the X48. The X48 are just higher binned X38 chips.
So therefore, the DFI and ASUS X38 motherboards, you can cross-flash to the the X48 BIOS if you really must.
For what your doing though, the P35 would most likely be fine. I went for the X38 as when I get my new GPU, it's probably going to be ATI so Crossfire will be an option. Especially since you can mix ATI GPUs in Crossfire so it gives further options.

Well, you won't need to go to the other forum much longer ... My DFI X48 board should be here today or tomorrow ... :D I'll be sticking my Q6600 in it for a few comparison tests and I'll post some stock benchies ... I held off flashing my X38 BIOS with the DFI X48 new BIOS because I want to see what the X48 board does stock ... ;)
I feel your pain Phill, about the Q9450 ... I have been up and down all over the Internets trying to find some outlet that has it ... everyone seems to be out of stock ... and I don't usually go the pre-order route with vendors I haven't dealt with before ... :-
It seems that most purchases that you guys make are based on 'overclockability' of xcertain products. However, just how much of a difference does this make in games?
AKHandyman
03-31-08, 01:43 PM
Well, for starters, a faster CPU is going to make for faster number crunching in the algorithms of the game's coding and as such move that info to the video card for final display ... and if the video card is faster, then the game plays better ... Am I making any sense? I have this terrible cold and can't decide if I should go to the local clinic or just take more cold medicine ... I hate being sick ... :curse:
