Hi, it's been... perhaps six or seven years(?) since I've built my computer. My motherboard had been faithful... until now.
It's an Epox 8 rda+
http://www.epox.com/USA/product.asp?ID=EP-8RDAplus
The green capsule looking things (what are they called anyway?) are apparently worn out, bulging at the top surface. My uncle said they had something to do with the power/electric flow of the motherboard.
I'd go look for the parts and replace them myself, but I have no experience in saudering (sp?) and should I fail and accidentally burn the board, the entire thing may be ruined, leaving me with the newly purchased parts. I looked on the epox website, but it's out of stock, probably out of production as well... if available, however, it's only some 35 dollars or so, an amount I'm willing to buy it at to have the computer running again.
So, what can I do? Should I simply give up and look for another mobo that'll fit the same requirements as my CPU and RAM, or might there be a service somewhere that repair things kind of things for an affordable price?

Wow...that is a nice board...one of my favorites back with the Athlon XP. If the capacitors are going bad on the board, you really need to replace the board. It isn't something that can be repaired.
The least expensive way to fix the problem would probably be to pick up a replacement 8RDA+ on Ebay. I found one here:

Another good board from around the same time period was the Abit NF7-S. They were more popular, so there are more of them on eBay. The only problem is they are still relatively expensive ($70). For that kind of money you'd be better off with replacing your mobo/cpu/RAM.

?
That would be your capacitors
You may want to be quick and get that thing out of there before you have other issues.

That would be the best bet.
New AMD x64 cpu's range anywhere from $45 for a 4000+ to $165 for a 6400+.
RAM is decently priced right now.
And as far as a good Mobo.
Well, I have this one for $45 shipped:D

Thought I would toss that in.
WOW... never thought i'd see that board again in my life. reminds me of back in the days. those were the hottest board, high DOA rate and failure rate, but great overclocker if it worked like it supposed to. those were the days when manufactures use cheaper parts to put together a great value inexpensive overclocking boards for the enthusiasts. you don't see that anymore these days now... boards are easily $150+, i can understand using a higher quality capacitor but com'on, if i had the option, i'll probably take out the fancy add-ons and lame heatsinks for a decent straight out motherboard with no ding dong and bling blings.
Avid you remember the days when Recycle was the first in this forum to use a bucket of ice water cooling his AXP on that same 8RDA+ board?.... i still remember that... now that's watercooling at it's finest. i mean who doesn't like having a cup of ice next to you ready to fill the bucket.

Yeah...I remember. Back then the forums seemed much more interesting. It probably was because everyone had the same basic system so the competition to fierce. We're all pretty diverse now. The past few weeks have led to some more competing and it has been a welcome change.
i wish i still had those pictures of that bucket..... damn it.. i tried to search for it, but i think it might have gotten lost somwhere,,, be nice if someone can dig it back up. it's the coolest i'd seen in a long time.

Thanks for all the replies. Typing with a Wii, comp = dead.
The Ebay one looks good, think I should get it?
Thanks for the deal on mobo, but i'm planning to build another comp soon, so i'd like to just get this one running for my mother to learn to use a comp.

I dont know, from the description it says the motherboard did not post. That mean it was or wasn't working
So yeah

when i originally posted the link I didn't realize the board was bad. You can search for basically anything based on the nForce 2 on eBay and it will probably be a good replacement. Post links to boards if you have any questions.

I see, i was wondering what the "did not post" meant xD
But I'll do just that, looking for it on ebay and such. Thank you all for all the help.

I emailed epox and they said they had an 8 rda+ for $50...
say if i were to buy combdon's board, would it be compatible with mine parts?
I forgot what sockets, but my cpu is barton(?) 2500+
I just tossed mine in the move earlier last month. Still ran good and would have just shipped it to you at your cost of shipping. Wasn't using or planning to..obviously. Let me check the garage and see if I have another board laying around I missed. Get back to you tomorrow cause I have duty on the ship today. I remember taking my ole' 1700+ 1.49ghz to 2.2ghz 24/7:D:sniper:

Well, please bother with that only if you have time... I don't really want to make you go through a garage full of stuff (if yours is as mine is) looking for a part to give to someone you don't really even know ><
although... it would be great if you happen to chance upon one. Either or, thanks for even considering so.
