I doubt this would cool very well. But it's really neat non-the-less.

Now that is interesting that a PC manufacturer is implementing the Sterling Engine Theory.

I agree with you Nataku on the devices genuine cooling abilities, but non-the-less it is a interesting contraption.

Such old news guys...

It's a novel idea, but within the confines of closed computer case, I'd expect some conflicting air movement from other heat sources and fans ... ;)

I dont think it would work that well. There's several reason for this :
1) There's too much moving parts. Even your normal fans had lesser part than MSI's Sterling Engine. That means even more probability of mechanical failure. Plus the lever are exposed, expect dust to collect and jammed the whole devices.
2) Sterling engine normally need a little push to get it moving. That, or the thermal energy it receives reaches the threshold where the engine could start by itself. And that would be more than >70 degrees :p
3) The chipset would not last long, partly due to fluctuating temperature. Constant heat fluctuation would increase stress and reduce the chipset life
4) The fan blade is not efficient. That design is a necessity because sterling engine would work more efficiently with the 'wheel' design (due to weight distribution). If normal fanblade was used, i dont think it would move lol

I dont know, this look too gimmick, i'll wait testimony from people who used it before going out and grab one myself :p

If you're interested on how it worked, here's a short video on that sterling engine demo : External Link - Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqqeR4ZRx6w)
