I had a hard drive problem and seem ot to missing key registry files (license keys etc.).... also the system is running slow in some instances eg. deleting files and folders takes minutes not seconds as usual.

Renaming a file can take 20 -30 seconds and basically freezes the windows explorer while doing so.

I've tried reinstalling some apps and they still don't work.. they look for disks that aren't there and I get multitudes of error messages as a result.

If any one has any ideas or suggestions I'd be grateful to contemplate then as a solution.

Regards........

sounds kinda weird, do a check disk to see if the hard drive is acting up, to rule out any software thats conflicting run the system in safe mode. Did you change any parts on the computer, or did it just happen out of the blue?

I'm not quite sure what happened, the kids we're playing around but who knows?

I don't really want to do a reinstall if if I can avoid it. I have many applications installed primarily photo, vidoe and music related apps that are quite sensitive at time if you know what I mean. A reinstall of Vista is a last resort.

I haven't changed any hardware, but have added some apps that were working fine until this happened.

Suggestions?
