Well, I searched both PCStats AND the net in general for an answer to this and all I was able to find was one person who had this issue (with no answer to it, either).

I have a Vista DVD I'm trying to install on a new, blank Hitachi 1TB HD. The install screen comes up perfectly. However, the only issue I'm having is after selecting language and location another screen comes up stating that CD/DVD-ROM drivers that are necessary for the completion of the installation are missing. I am then left with two options: looking for drivers or exiting the installation.

Now...please don't tell me I'm going to have to buy a new DVDRW drive. I'm sick of having to buy new everything every single time I want to do a minor upgrade. I have an NEC ND-3540A and it works perfect...this being the first issue I EVER had.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Is this a legit retail Vista DVD? Cause if not maybe that's your problem.

Depending on your motherboard, there may be an option in the BIOS to set the SATA Mode. Try putting it on IDE mode and see if that fixes the problem.

Believe it or not...it is legit. However, I admit I did not pay for it ;-) It was given to me by someone who hated it. Now I know why! Support is weak.

Also, I tried to do what you said but that doesn't quite make sense. My HD is SATA and thus the BIOS recognizes it under the SATA category. I cannot even choose it under the IDE category.

Any other ideas? I think I will just go back to XP Pro. Vista seems like a disaster already.

Well some BIOS'es can make the SATA appear as IDE to Windows which could possibly solve your problem.

If XP works, just use it. I really don't know why Vista would be asking for a DVD-ROM driver and I've never heard of such a thing.
