View Full Version : Learned a hard lesson today
i recently sold my mid tower Coolermaster Pretorian 730 case on ebay for an outrageously low price, which was already bad luck #1.
i couldn't find a box to fit it in, so i decided to go to Mailbox Etc to let them just do the whole thing, box it and ship for me. only got ripped off by them big time today. bastards charged me $20 bucks just to box/pack it and another $19 for ground shipping. altogether i paid more today to ship out that case than what i got for the case from the auction. in another word, i gave out the case for free and tossing another $6 into the box.
sometimes you win some and you lose some. but the important thing is that you learn from it.
never trust the vendor and give them the go ahead without getting a price quote. "especially" MailBox etc. i still can't believe how outrageous that was. oh well. i learned a hard lesson today.
That's why I always charge extra for shipping. Like whatever you bid + shipping.

No dude, never let them f00s do that. They tried to stick me like that and I left and went and looked for a big box. You can usually find some behind grocery stores or auto body shops. Or do some dumpster diving. :)

I save all of my boxes from all of the hardware I get ... I always have a box to send my stuff back in. And I do the packing myself which I save even mo money ... :D Then I send it by the United States Postal Service ... best shipping company I know ... cause I own it (my taxpayer dollars :D) I always ask for the cheapest way to send things and they (the PO workers) have to tell me ... again, I own their asses ... (my taxpayer dollars :D) and of course if I need insurance, they'll still give me the best rate ... (you know by now :D)
So there you have it! Should asked me first BAM, I coulda hooked you up! :D

Do like I do when I sell items on ebay...
I charge a certain percentage + shipping weight and I have a UPS account. I print the shipping labels out on my thermal printer and schedule a pickup from UPS. Since I own a business I get a slightly lighter fee when shipping, but usually ship all my packages 3-day ground(besides AK & Hawaii).
Everybody gives me good feedback for very well packaged freight and speedy shipping. Then again all my Paypal, Ebay, UPS, Bank and Emails come to my smartphone.
As AK said above, behind businesses like grocery/RX stores is a very good place to find boxes of all sizes. I know first hand because I do it on a regular basis.
Lesson learned BAM! :teeth:
Better yet, why don't you try and sell it to us?
I know we're stingy bunch, but heck, i don't think you could lose that much by selling PC hardwares

Wait a minute, yea? Maybe I wanted a case, you know, just to have for my HW collection. ;)
:bball:
i actually i do usually box and pack my own items. i usually keep boxes around with peanuts and wraps. and i have gone dumpster diving before. in fact i went and got a gigantic box but it was way too big for the case. all in all i've never let anyone else pack my box except for this one time, and i learned from this one painful experience. i didn't think Mailbox etc could charge me THAT much. i even took the box/packing weight into account and set the shipping price accordingly, i always do add a few extra pounds for shipping rates.
it turned out that this time, when i let my guards down, they robed me blind. they charged me more for the shipping and outrageously amount for packing. i am never going to do that again ever. next time find a whatever box to put it in, doesn't matter if it's twice as big.

...next time find a whatever box to put it in, doesn't matter if it's twice as big. When I got my Onkyo from Crutchfield, they sent it in box that was much bigger that the receiver packing box. Full of Styrofoam peanuts and such ... it came through without a dent. The moral of the story ... do like the "big guys" do and you'll never get burned again ... :thumb:;)

USPS is not funded by taxpayers dollars. :)How right you are ... I was wrong ... so I retract my earlier statements. I should have said
The United States Postal Service (USPS) handles cards, letters, and packages sent from sea to shining sea. The USPS delivers more than 212 billion pieces of mail a year to some 148 million addresses in the US and its territories. The independent government agency relies on postage and fees to fund operations. Though it has a monopoly on delivering the mail, the USPS faces competition for services such as package delivery. The US president appoints nine of the 11 members of the board that oversee the USPS. The presidential appointees select the postmaster general and together they name the deputy postmaster general; the two also serve on the board.
There ... that's what I should have said. :D

Good for you, you dont want to rile up the postal workers. :D
Although I now work in IT for USPS I was a window clerk for 3 years, I got the "I pay your salary" rant a few times.
