I'm tempted, but I'll wait until few more builds have been released...

Ooo. I'll probably wait till too. Vista left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Windows 7 Beta is available on MSDN (Microsoft Developer Network) right now for those who have access. I downloaded a copy earlier this morning, but haven't used it yet. I am running an copy of Windows 7 Pre Beta build 7000. That installation has run pretty flawless. It is faster than Vista/XP in just about every way.

Windows 7 ain't worth sh*t if it doesn't bring WinFS into the table.

I have taken great interest in Longhorn (vista) development, because it promises so much changes. I had taken the liberty to try out Longhorn beta till Vista RC's. But with Windows 7, there's really nothing much to shout about......... so i'd skip trying out the beta's for now :p

Apparently, there is so much misconception and mistrust around the "Vista" labels that Microsoft decided it's better to came out with a new O/S A.S.A.P.

Windows 7 doesn't have WinFS. Not really a huge deal. It's a nice refresh that offers better performance. I don't see how you can argue against that.

ill probly try it out when its available. im sure i got a hard drive kicking around to use.

with any luck, they'll open a call center to support it on the release date in town here, and i can get all the dirty inside info like i did for vista. i've been tempted to share some of that info, im sure i signed a privacy agreement or something though that would be against that

I'm test driveing it at this very moment 3.15 Gb d/l with a key so far works good nvidia drivers go through windows update, creative drivers will only run if emulated as vista.

I got Windows 7 x64 Ultimate running ATM too with a legit, activated key. Without a key, Windows Update does not work just to let you know, or at least it wasn't working for me.

I tried installing ATI's Beta Windows 7 drivers but the Install Manager crashes. Same goes with the Vista ones. So I'm out of luck with that, but Windows Update has newer ones so maybe they'll be fine.

My Xonar DX installed fine using the Vista x64 drivers.

So overall, pretty decent OS. The new UI takes a bit of time to get used to though since the whole taskbar is redefined. If people hated Vista due to its UI, they are really going to hate Windows 7.

i hated XP for its UI.....i still use the classic 95/98 look

for you guys running windows 7.......do it still do the compulsive flicker the screen when i installs any driver that isnt video related like vista. i've installed vista a few times recently, and today thats really bugging me, update and audio driver, and the screen flickers, its the guay

I've never had that in Vista or 7. Screen only flickers when you install the video drivers though even then it doesn't always do so.

My son-in-law burned two different copies, 32bit/64bit (he has cable modem and no bandwidth limit, not like my slow-ass, bandwidth capped, shytty DSL ) and they're on their way ... can't wait to give it a whirl. He said it is much faster than Vista. He hated Vista, but definitely likes this new OS ... :thumb:

Well on computers like ours, Vista runs the same as Windows 7 IMHO. Though Windows 7 seems to boot a bit faster but that's about it.

Sounds like hes talking about UAC, cause that flickers when you are trying to do anything on the computer lol, disabling that fixes it for me, i honestly have no complaints with vista

I have noticed that Vista does slow down from time to time ... don't know what it is exactly, but after a restart ... it picks up again. Is it something with the prefetch? I have 8GBs of RAM, so I would expect it not to slow down like it does. I have yet to really tweak Vista ... probably something I should do, huh?:p

How often do you run Vista?

If you don't use it daily then yeah prefetch and indexing is going to hurt performance when you do use it since it'll basically have to update itself entirely. Just like when you finish installing it, Vista seems to thrash the hard drive for quite a bit.

And I have UAC enabled in Windows 7. Doesn't seem anywhere near as annoying as Vista was. Though Xfire always triggers it when I boot up (Xfire on autorun) since it auto-updates.
