This concerns me because the EU has a "messed up" way of dictating US policies.

Call me crazy but I think this has less to do with being environmentally friendly and more to do with energy consumption. I remember seeing a documentary where this guy stated our energy consumption doubles every 10-15 years. According to this (http://www.bp.com/sectiongenericarticle.do?categoryId=9023766&contentId=7044197) it's 2.2%, taking 31.5, but that's for the entire world rather than industrialized nations. I might be thinking too much into this and I might even read into it a bit further, but maybe your country can't keep up with the future energy requirements so it just blames the environment situation? Looking at this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_energy_consumption_per_capita ) list, one of the best places to start going green is with the US. Of course our cities are so horribly designed that you can't go out and buy groceries without a car.

I always thought that finally tackling the environmental issues was because of something like this, rather than governments/people doing it out of concern for the planet. Anyway, that's pretty retarded and lets just hope they don't start banning custom PC's with quad core CPU's, high end GPU's and of course the overclocking that comes with it. I been reading a lot of f*cked up sh1t about your country lately.

Nova, Nataku lives in South Carolina ... last time I checked, that is still part of the United States ... of course there's always been rumors that the South will rise again! :woot: :p:D

If their argument for banning plasma is to save electricity, then they should banned all incandescent light bulbs then, and replace it with florescent or LED's.

There are millions incandescent lightbulbs around, and hell they ate lots of energy (as compared to florescent or LED's).

I guess someone in the house of commons are pissed off with image burn-in on his plasma TV's :p

P/S : Sh*ts, upon reading the article, they will banned lightbulbs that used more than 100W. Damnation :p

I'm planning on that. replacing all my light bulbs with the flourescent ones.

Plus I prefer the light of flourescent.

I did that a loooong time ago ... I'm glad to see that you're finally catching up to the 21st Century ... :p

puffff.... i did that more than two years ago when my electric bill finally reached $100 a month on a one bedroom apt. back then most people didn't even know what CF bulb was.

now i am paying $80 a month, and that's my wife and i together. thanks to CF bulbs, and more energy efficient appliances like my computer :D back then motherboards hardly supported any energy saving feature. DFI's Lanparty's S3 was only broken at the best. now i am running all my 3 rigs at home with energy saving scheme. like my HTPC would wake up from S3 when it's about to record a show, and goes back to S3 when it finishes.

and i no longer do any more folding. the day i stopped i saved $10 on my monthly bill.

So in a nutshell, if I ain't using it, it goes to sleep! My 24/7 rig with the Gigabyte E45-UD3P board has a great energy savings app. You using that as well, Howard?

the S3 only works below certain FSB or is broken at certain FSB. once you raise the FSB pass some 370mhz or 400 mhz or below certain particular range of FSB... S3 fails to work properly. it does a infinite loop when you try to wake it back up.

give it a try, it'll be a fun treat.

for reference, google for "ep45 ud3p s3 reboot", you'll see countless forum members having this problem. here is one from tweak town http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/help-ga-ep45-ud3p-settings-s3-sleep-400-fsb-not-working-28163/

it's even a huge issue on Xtreme forum, there's a huge thread about it where people are still having issues even with the latest F7A beta bios. http://209.85.173.132/search?q=cache:GNfu_AKhmwwJ:www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php%3Ft%3D205132%26page%3D8+ep45+ud3p+s 3+reboot&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=5&gl=us so far there still is no fix other than lowering your FSB; which is what i've done, lowered my FSB to get S3 working, which sort of limits the purpose of overclocking.

i know how much you like Gigabyte, and i admit in recently years they've shown great progress in curtailing to the enthusiasts. but i just don't think they've quite got it right "yet" with this board. at least not untill they can fix the problem.

my P5E with Rampage Forumula bios although tops out at around 460FSB, at least it does it with S3 working at ANY fsb level. not to mention Vdrop with the RAMPAGE bios is none existence. with the UD3P i still get about 0.03V of vdrop even with load line calibration enabled.

Hey Howard ... I've not much experience with Gigabyte other than with this board. I think it's okay, not something I would tinker with all the time. And TBH, I am not overclocking it anymore ... I have it stable for my 24/7 rig with my Xeon 3360. I have it running at 3.4GHz and that's fast enough for me for everyday use :thumb: But why do you need S3? I use S1 and the energy savings app ...

S1 only saves me about a couple watts... maybe 50 watts top.

S3 completely shuts the computer down, so the comp really only consumes about 3~5 watts.

so in comparison, my HTPC runs about 245~260 watts idle, ( i get all my reading from a Kill-a-watt readout off the wall socket) with S1 it'll still consume at least 200~220 watts, which is still quite a lot if you factor that by 24/7. in S3 only about 3~5 watts is consumed. plus with S3, it turns on/off instantly, it's almost like a DVR.

200 watts might not be a lot when you're alone, but when you have three computers at home all overclocked, plus with my LCD tv consuming 250 watts everytime i turn it on, that's even more power. 200 watts at 24/7 pretty much translates to money every month. ever since i've been using S3 with my HTPC "alone", i noticed my power bill went down $10 bucks. i was paying $90, but then went down to $80~$85.

You must not run the air conditioning or heater very much. Either that or your house is very well insulated.

Our summer electricity bill ranges from $200 - $300 for a fairly small 1400 sq. ft. house. Our heating bill for December was $90, but we don't really need much heating down here ever.

yeah... like i said.. my wife and i live in a one bedroom apt 750sq ft. we rarely use AC or heat. $80~$100 a month is actually quite high for a one bedroom out here. before we got married my wife was sharing a two bedroom with two other girls, their monthly electric was $60 for two bedroom apt, they each paid $20 a month.

overall i noticed a drastic electric bill reduction just by turning off all my pc (going into s3) when we go to bed.

Bam i got a question, when the computer goes into S3, and you have set a recording for the computer, does it turn back one and record?, or would i have to leave it on? i havnt had time to test it yet

if you use Vista's built in media center, it'll turn itself 3 mins before the show begins, and goes back to S3 when the show finishes recording (provided if the system is set to go into S3 properly). However, if you turn your PC off completely, it won't know to turn itself back on, since it's completely off.

i've had my home entertainment setup this way for the past 8 months now. i wow my friends everytime they come over :D its' as easy/instant as turning on/off a cable box.
