Before I go on line and read up on boot camp and what ever else that may be new to have come out with loading Windows XP onto my Mac since I have done it back a long time ago, I was figuring I'd ask everybody now if they can add anything before I start looking around on line, it should help me focus on the important.

This would be great if you can add anything that you can, like how have things been working out for you since adding, or are now adding Windows XP onto your Mac...

So whats your experience's been like since there is no support in doing this? Did you find some nice improvements? like boot camp?

Have you gotten to the point where your fully functional when in Windows using your Mac? or do you feel its not quite there yet and just consider it a limited use OS on your Mac for the time being....

I have a few program CD's that are Windows only, so I wanted to run them by booting into windows, but when I boot into Windows I get a black screen and I just hear the HDD running, thats it, I have to hold the power button to shut down to regain control. I guess this may be from the copy became corrupted, then I thought I remember reading there was a bug or virus, I forget... I guess I can delete and reload when that time comes.

I'm asking all this cause it's been a long time since I loaded Windows on my Mac, then after a while I stopped booting into Windows because when boot camp first hit the internet and there is no support I was not able to get on line, still can't when in Windows I lost interest, so now getting back into it I'll need to figure this out along with a few other things...

It will be a big help if you can share how this has been going for you and if there is anything you think will help me by mentioning...... thanks for the help.... Joe

Well the final version of bootcamp (1.0) was released bundled with 10.5 (Leopard). Do you have 10.5?

Nothing much has changed except for new drivers for new hardware.

The only thing you really NEED to know is that you must use a SP2 disk if you are installing Windows. I've tried it with a SP1 disk and it acted all screwy after installing.

All bootcamp really does anyway is creates a NTFS partition for you. After that it's just like any other PC.

Once you've installed Windows be sure to pop back in you Leopard install CD so that it ca load drivers onto windows for things like your mac keyboard. etc.

And just ask if you have any questions!

I've upgraded to Vista on my Mac and have had no issues. It's what I use to play games. :)

My Notebook has the same original OS that came with it which is the
Tiger 10.4.11.

Also the copy of the Windows XP I got that I'll load onto it again is new and has the SP2 on it.

I'll go thru what your telling me to do and look for pretty soon, before when I loaded Window XP on my Mac I had a lot of situations that was too much for me to deal with, so I lost interest on fixing the things wrong, like getting on line, printer problems, etc... I figured I'd wait until now, so it looks like it should be better to do it again.. :)

I will upgrade to the Snow Leopard as soon as it comes out, that when I'll load Win XP. I hope by loading Snow Leopard it will fix the things I'm dealing with now with Tiger, like as the cursor advances the prior does not disappear where it once was, so at times I'll have a sentence I'm typing and it will have anywhere between 6 to 15 cursors all over the place, it was real bad when I'd need to back up while typing to make corrections, because then I don't know which of the many cursors all over the place was the active one.... :)

Then I found out later on to press the space bar firmly and they would all disappear, but come right back again as I start typing again... this would happen intermittently, and was told its a software related problem....

Then with Tiger I went and loaded the "smc Fan Control software" to control my cooling fans manually, because there was no way I was making any progress dealing with Tech support about how I was able to fry bacon and eggs on the notebook, so I found that quick fix because I did not want to run my notebook that hot... so ever since I loaded that software my notebook has always been nice and cool... so I hope with Snow Leopard I don't need to manually operate the fans.. :)

thanks for the help, I'd be glad to get back to you soon when snow leopard hits the shelfs and I load XP... thanks again!

Snow Leopard has really gotten my attention since it's only going to be bug fixes and performance optimizations.

Lets see if they can deliver on what they are saying.

You could try loading VMWARE FUSION to avoid having to reboot everytime you want to use Windows.

You could try loading VMWARE FUSION to avoid having to reboot everytime you want to use Windows.

That is correct, however it will make everything run at least 3 times slower because it's running in emulation.
