Hey guys. So I've tried and tried to uninstall iTunes off my computer but whenever I install the new version it won't let me so I need another program that can organize and upload music to an iPod. Any ideas?

songbird is half decent, considering its in early development. mediamonkey isn't bad either, though its not free

i compiled the svn on a linux box, and let it build a library, then i got rid of it since i had no use for it, just wanted to see what kind of memory usage it pulled, and how it looked. i have a user with an old P3 trying to use itunes, so i set them up with songbird. it seemed pretty straight forward to use to me. did you install the ipod plugin? it would take me half a second to reinstall it, not sure how much i could help you figure out though, im on linux, so plugins are a little limited

as far as amarok, i say dirty, because its a very dirty windows port of a linux program. its a kde based app, kde is being ported to windows, theres alot of unnecessary work, i'll leave it at that

I have no doubt that Songbird will be a great player someday, but its still too young for mainstream. It doesn't organize, monitor or manage music folders on your harddrive or ipod well yet. It has this really annoying bug where if you add playlists, it will sometimes re-add the songs on the playlist to the ipod, even if they are already there. Also a lot of those plugins should be built in, so it can be difficult to use now. Don't get me started on the memory leaks -- that must have come from the Firefox source code :(

If you don't like it, maybe we can troubleshoot itunes. Why is it saying you can't install itunes? The computer in your sig meets the system requirements. If it is something about Quicktime, we can work around that and then I can help you install iTunes 8 without all the crap apple bundles with it.

It says "The installation cannot directly upgrade the version of iPod software found on this computer. Please uninstall the iPod software and try again." every time I try to install iTunes. I'm pretty sure I uninstalled iTunes. I have this really old iPod system software 2.0.1 that came with my 3rd gen iPod but I can't uninstall it. I go to add/remove programs but it doesn't do anything.

might not be a bad idea to give it a go, while you're at it, remove anything apple, quicktime, anything. use the clean up tool to toss the add/remove entries. clean any apple settings folder from your appdata in your user profile. get rid of any apple stuff left over in program files. and then remove any apple keys in teh registry under hkeycurrentuser/software, and hkeylocalmachine/software, shouldnt need to toss anything else in the registry.

if i need to cover that in more detail, ask, im just lazy right now. once you're done all that, i know someone around here can help with a "light" itunes install

Okay, JDROM now youve gone too far . First, you actually try to make Comixion feel like he's a good person when he buys Vista and starts laughing it up; then you tell Azn to buy a mac. You're slippin' bro, you're slippin'...time to call the men in white coats

Azn, try updating your iPod software and then removing it.

lol when did I say Comixion was a good person for BUYING Vista? Maybe I said it was good that he's using Vista. Don't believe I mentioned buying :p

And in all seriousness, Apple software works better on a Mac IMO because they just hate on Windows.

Why would they do that? if the software reflects badly no one will want to switch.

It's more likely they just are not devoting a lot of effort to the PC software.

Well whatever, still runs better on a Mac, plus iTunes is integrated into OSX right? Kind of hard for it to f*ck up then, or I'd hope not.

Not quiet as integrated as IE is in Windows. iTunes can be uninstalled if you don't want it on your Mac.

But yes it is preinstalled.
