My Asus 8600gts Idle's at around 59 Celsius according to Speedfan, which is wayyy too much

I was thinking about installing a heatsink fan, but ive never done anything like this before. I have no clue how to install it, or what kinda fan to even buy!

Can somebody help me out here? :)

Video Cards run rather hot, and looks like its a normal operating temperature, you can always replace the heatsink and fan. Just look for gfx coolers, such as here http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=576&name=VGA-Cooling, and to install them is specific to the model of cooler you purchase. Its almost the same as a cpu heatsink, just make sure to clean off any older thermal grease and after apply new thermal grease

Is there any specific fans i should look out for? Ive never changed the CPU heatsink either Lol, so its all new to me

Do they usually give instructions with the fan on how to install it?

If you buy those branded HSF, yes, the manual are normally thorough and well laid out.

Those china-ish generic brand......... the manual is as good as a dead badger :p

Anyway, try cleaning the HSF, and apply new thermal paste (good quality ones). The temperature would drop by few degrees.

Ok i'll probably order the Zalman V-F900

I kno this is a stupid newbie question but does it come with everything I need like the thermal compound paste?

I kind of prefer Arctic Cooling stuff myself, but that Zalman is probably fine too.

And yeah, it comes with everything you need though I'd suggest using Arctic Cooling MX-2 paste instead (or MX-3 if that's on the market yet).
