A friend called me about an issue he is having since updating to IE8.
Note: The issue exists in Firefox also.
Since updating when he goes to Youtube and wants to search videos the youtube search bar will not accept text. He cannot type in it. Nor when he clicks on "sign in" it will not let him sign in.
So, I told him about Firefox and had him install it. Well, same issue. He wants to unistall IE8 back to IE7. Can this be done and how?
But nonetheless, what could be causing this.

I don't think you can uninstall IE8, and I can't see it fixing the issue either.
Is it only YouTube? Or do all sites with text fields do it? Sounds to me that he has some nasty malware of sorts.
Also try going into the IE Internet Options, Advanced tab, Restore advanced settings and Reset. That would rule out any odd configuration problems. For Firefox, go into the options and make sure Javascript is enabled.

Some sites. I told him to make sure Adobe Flash player was installed but when he went to the main site and tried to download the program it would not let him. Also his Avast icons do not show in the task bar but he says it's installed. So I asked him to run a virus scan. He can't even do that.
Also, when I told him to do what you said JD about "internet options, Advanced, restore default settings" he said it would not let him do that either. What he means by "will not let" well, he's kinda vague on his explanation. It's hard to see what the issue is without me seeing it. He's only 250 miles away.
This problem did not occur until he updated to IE8. So I dunno if it's the update that screwed things up or he's got a serious bug.
Almost sounds like a reformat job to me.

I really doubt it's due to IE8. Definitely sounds more like malware, or that Vista just f*cked itself (which wouldn't be surprising).
Tell him to try running this: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php Free version of course.

Well, as with everything else he's tried to download, it would not let him. I keep trying to get him tell me exactly what it does when he clicks the download button but he just says it does nothing. I can't get a straight answer out of him because of 2 reasons, he knows nothing about computers as far as explaining an issue, and he's mad because it's messed up.
He's on his own.

Well how about that. Bill allows you to remove one of his programs.
