View Full Version : BSOD in Windows 7 after enabling memory remap

I installed Windows 7 Professional 64 bit today and as I have 4GB RAM decided to enable memory remap. Trouble is I got a BSOD, which I'm pretty sure is due to enabling memory remap. The blue screen said something about MEMORY_MANAGEMENT, so I know it's most likely pointing to the RAM. Is there a workaround for this or do I just have to keep it disabled?

I did get a couple of BSODs in Windows XP 32 bit afterwards but after disabling memory remap that seems to have stopped.

i think it has more to do with the stability of BIOS.

in older motherboard, enabling memory remap seemed to give me more problems too.

in newer boards, the memory remap setting tend to be already enabled by default, i've never encounter any problems now.

perhaps you can visit the motherboard forums, see if there's a work around that.

Well, I got some BSODs later on so that rules out it being memory mapping as that was disabled at the time.

It's looking like memory corruption problems again like I got with the Crucial memory I used to have. I rebooted and ran memest straight away and it finds errors but I then shut down, boot back up and it finds no errors.

Must be just coincidence it started happening the day I adjusted the partitions and installed Windows 7.

If it's the motherboard causing the issues (which I expect it is now) is there something I can try before sending the motherboard back? Would raising the northbridge voltage a tad perhaps help?

Is your memory runnnig at the manufacture Voltage Settings? thats usually the first thing they will ask. By default ram is usually set lower at the specified voltage however some memory needs like 0.1-0.3v more. Check that first. If its under voltage it might be casuing little errors that may not have shown themselves before. Maybe new OS is more sensitive to it.

and if it's over volted, that might have been slowly killing your memory.

Haven't had a chance to reply as I've been away.

The RAM is running at the voltage Corsair has stated on the RAM's label. The timings are also set correctly.

I've taken the RAM out and re-inserted the modules in case they were loose. Next step is to put them in different slots if the problem continues.

Ugh, is it just me or did i think the best way around this is to disable memory remapping?

I mean, if you enabled it and it causes BSOD, shouldnt you enabled it back?

Just sayin' :D

are you running the latest bios? if you are, try researching your board, sometimes certain bios versions are recommend more by users for being more stable too. sometimes the latest bios versions aren't always the best

Read a few replies back. I switched off memory remapping and the problems continued.

stlouis1, I flashed to the latest BIOS version after disabling memory remapping and finding the problems hadn't gone away. It hasn't cured the problem but I have been away so haven't had a chance to look into the problem any further. So far after being back I've only reseated the RAM in case it was loose.

I'm going to post a new thread in the motherboard forum. Please don't reply in this thread now please.
