Default my new BFG 6800 Ultra OC benches...

ok i posted earlier with my new computer minus the new videocard. I was pulling about 20,000 3dmark 2001 and about 6,000 3dmark 2003 scores. This was on my 3500+ oc'ed to 2.55 ghz with a 9700 pro.

    Well guess what!!!!

    Heres my new specs:

My BFG 6800 Ultra OC came in today. I got it in my rig and ran a couple benches for ya. I am able to overclock it to 450 core / 1.2 memory. Pretty decent overclock if you ask me all on air cooling. I could probably go further i get "ZERO" artifacts in doom 3 or any of the benches listed below. I just did the auto detect thing a couple times and that was the average.

I now score in the 25,000 in 3dmark 2001 and in the 13,000 in 3dmark 2003. Im so proud of my computer 8*)

anyway heres some links to the 3dmark runs.

    Default Interesting...

I was browsing your compare URL looking at your system against mine. The 6800 UE give the X800 Pro a pretty good pasting, except in the Mother Nature test!! Yeah... somehow my X800 Pro held its own against the 6800 UE and rendered a higher frame rate in the Mother Nature test.

Xenozx is the dark grey, mine is the lighter grey.

I don't mean to belittle your awsome score man... just glad the X800 Pro can still put up bit of a fight.

yea im happy with my machine. it costed me (with the 500 vid card) about 1700 bucks. I figured it compares with a 5000 dollar alienware, and i built it my self so it was way worth the time and effort. I just wish the videocard came in when i originally ordered it on 06-22-04.

About the fourth test. Nvidia uses 16/32 bit and ati uses 24 bit. from what i heard all the tests in 3dmark2003 run at the 32 bit precision where ati cards are only running 24 bit. Since test # 4 (nature) is the most taxing test it really starts to hurt the 6800 ultra. Thats one of the problems with 3dmark2003 being a synthetic bench and all. Now most games on the other hand use a combination of 16/32. they use 16 bit where they gain performance but dont lose Image quality. and use 32 where image quality would be sacrificed if they used 16. This is why all 6800 series cards do bad compared to ati cards in test 4.

The good news is 3dmark2004 will be out shortly (i hope) and when it is released im pretty sure it will do it in 16/32 mode.

apparently the 3dmark they are working on may most likely not be released this year, the guy in the forums from futuremark din't say if it was 2004 or 2005, but the things he implied suggested 2005, also theres no point making a 2004 at the end of 2004

hmm, i assumed because 3dmark 2003 came out in 2003 (right?) then 2004 would come out in 2004. i could be wrong tho, i just saw some things in some other forums.

    after a little tweaking i now scored 13812 8)

    ****************service.futuremark**********/compare?2k3=2891880

My BFG is clocked at 465/1.2ghz. Runs flawlessly. No artifacts or anything.

I can even run doom 3 at these speeds without a hitch. I think i got that 1 out of a 1,000 boards to get an overclocked like this no problem 8)

nova, that 9600 se of yours is it any good? i have a friend looking to get into videogaming. He currently has no videocard. Just his onboard memory. He has decent pc specs. 512 mb 2700 ddr and a 2000+ athlon xp processor. I saw that videocard for about 60 bucks which is in his price range of under 80 bucks. would you recomend it? does it overclock well and which brand did oyu go with?

i could see the GT's go up to 450x1100 NP, but the GT's dont have 1.6ns memory modules like the ultra's do. they use 2.0ns memory which i believe is rated to a max of 1000 mhz. It can go higher but i dont think an extra 20% is gonna happen.

Gt's are awsome from a price standpoint. I just dont see how people are pulling such high overclocks on a card with only 1 power connector and 2.0ns mem, where as the ultra has 2 molex connectors and 1.6ns mem. so i think reguardless it should clock higher in all cases.

    just my 2 cents.

i went with the ati version of it, and what can i say, depends on how much gaming he's planning on, in 3dmark2003 i get scores of 70 11 11 17 approximately in the different games and that with overclock, as for it overclocking well, i went from a score of 1500 to a score of 2100 so i would say it does overclock pretty well, and thats with the stock cooling (witch is just a crappy heatsink, and way to small in my opinion) when it comes to actual gaming, if i set the graphics in windows to medium and play games i can usually play at a good amount of fps at 1024x768 res, but any higher and games start lagging (mainly fps, or 3d rpgs such as neverwinter nights) but wc3 and other games such as u2k4 are very playable (around 80 fps in botmach with all the graphics on normal/low and 1024x768 res) all in all would i recommend it? well the 9600xt is double the price and double the performance and i would recommend a 9800 pro over all of these, but yes if 80$ is all he can dishout, sure go ahead

see if he can find a standard 9600 for that price range or even a 9600pro. i would try to stay away from the se versions of ati. no offence nova.
