Question what monitor?

hi guys

im going to be getting a TFT monitor at some point and after a little bit of thinking, i have decided against the 20" model as for £670, i think its a little over priced and as 19" models are at least £300 LESS, i figured i could put the money elsewhere which would be better..

therefore i was just wondering, what model/models are people looking into or have themselves?

i think i saw a benQ or something, which had a 12ms response time (which i think is good??) and was under the £300 mark..

any advice will be great.. thanks a lot guys

i always liked benq monitors...i have one of em in my mouse and it's been great performance wise...but the aesthetics can do with a lil bit of help (the back looks like a turtle's shell.....the front was actually pretty nice) i had the fp767v2...i think their newer ones look better tho

i feel that with samsung you pay a bit for the brand
i have a samsung and i think that most samsung still use 25ms panels
and they are still more expensive then benQ but i do feel that my samsung 191T is better looking then the benQ i've seen when i say better looking i talk about design
i cant use a skeleton arm with that!
p.s. i fight crime for beer
hhhmm ok i may be a jerk but i'm a jedi jerk like my father was before me :P

you have to check the response time before you buy for all brands...samsung makes some of the best monitors...just stay away from their high response time stuff

i hear that you have to have a responce time of less than 16ms? this is correct isnt it? i agree with rudegear that i also feel that you pay a little more for a brand name.. ie samsung.. i dont really want to spend over £350 at a push on one of these monitors and then find out they are not good! im unsure if pc world would stock anything to even have a look at or to even look at with a game being played to see how good things really are with these monitors...

what are my chances of getting a great responce time and a bad looking monitor? when i say bad looking, i mean for the image quality...

thanks for the help guys, its muchly appreaited

well something like contrast dont have to follow a fast pixel response
but if it does (and it often do) is because it's just in general a very good all around panel but if they wanted they could make a panel with a really good pixelresponse but crap everything else :P

tough choice...I would go with the LG. It is only analog input...but it is cheap and has a 12ms response time..

but dam..the viewsonic one does look pretty...

truth be told now that i have (a bit of a sh1tty) lcd, i wish i'd spend that $ on something like a 22" crt, but out of the latest lcd's u have up there i would definetly go with the sharp monitor

since the benq has a dot pitch (distance between pixels) of .294 when the average lcd and crt has .264 (smaller = better) and i'm not to sure about the viewsonic they don't say much about it

also you should know that there is a slight chance you will get dead pixels and depending on the manufacturer and the place where you buy it from they won't let you return/replace it unless you have a certain amount of dead pixels (newegg has 8 and up)
If pro is the opposite of con, what's the opposite of progress?

i was considering the ben q model and that would be a bad thing? so the sharp model would be a better buy? what about the LG? would that be a worthy contender?

spending up to £350 here, i dont want to buy something thats cr*p! heres the stores dead pixel policy.. although im not quite sure how to 'read' it..

thanks for the help guys!

looking at it again, the LG model does seem to me a worthy contender... anyones opinion? its not that much more than the ben q model either... heres a link for a bit more information on the viewsonic model:

**********************.viewsoniceurope**********/uk/Pr...LCDX/VX910.htm

and i think that one looks even better.. oh cra*!

i never had any dead pixels on my benq, lg or samsung screens...i dont know about the others...but i dont think they do either...

the table on the left specifys the number of dead pixels allowed per million...the table on the right just takes the # of dead pixels per million...and calculates it for the specific # of pixels on each screen size...

you should be fine with any of those 4 screens as they are all from pretty good manufacturers...i dont like the benq cause it only has a 450:1 contrast ratio...the lg has 500:1...and the others i dont know...but 12ms is definitely good for gaming...at least better than the 16ms ones...

Edit: yes the viewsonic one does look very very nice

i find it such a shame tho that the models above only go upto a 1280x1024 screen res... i was hoping to get 1600x1200 cos my current CRT only goes up to 1280x1024.. plus i think that the games look better in the higher resolutions! i dunno really what model to get, although like i said, i think the LG model does look kinda good. plus the viewsonic i think you are paying for the name a little and the LG does have a faster response time. oh its such a pain!
