    Question two gaming rigs, but which would you prefer/buy?

    hi guys,

    anandtech had a thing on gaming rigs and i would just like to get your thoughts from them.. well just two anyways.. im only using the 'main bits' as thats all i really need myself...

    heres the 'AMD Mid-Range Gaming System':

    Processor : AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 512K 2.2 GHz (939) 90nm
    Motherboard : MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
    Memory : Mushkin Dual Pack 2x512 PC3200 2.5-3-3
    Video Card : Albatron GeFORCE 6800 GT 256MB GDDR3
    Case and PSU :Antec SLK3700-BQE with 350W

    High-End Gaming System (AMD)

    Processor : AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 1MB 2.6 GHz (939)
    Motherboard : MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
    Memory : 2x512MB Crucial Ballistix 2-2-2 1T
    Video Card :Sapphire X800 XT 256 MB GDDR3 AGP
    Case :Antec Lanboy Aluminum 88
    Power Supply : Antec True480 480W PSU with Blue LED

    now as most of us overclock or demand the best from most hardware, the mushkin memory from the mid range rig would be replaced (or swapped?) with the crucial ballistix stuff or the oc z pc3200 memory..

    now, which would people not only want, but actually BUY bit for bit and why?
    mainly because im in sort of the same situation and i'm a little unsure myself.. i'd change the case for both of them to the coolermaster stacker and i think i would definitely have the XT over the GT even if the GT is faster, as i prefer ATI cards for some reason (dont ask, i have no idea why!)

    oh i was considering the purchase of a ViewSonic VP912B 19 LCD 12ms monitor as well, but i think for right now, my 17" CRT is doing ok for now, until i have a real want for a new monitor..

    i wouldnt buy either of them...first of all...im waitin for pci express...and secondly..they both suck..haha...one's too expensive..and the other one doesnt have enough "fun" factor...here's what i would get...

    Processor : AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 512K 2.2 GHz (939) 90nm
    Motherboard : MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (I'd want a pci express board)
    Memory : PQI/OCZ pc3200 TCCD's (They use a differnt/better pcb than the rest of the pack ) or Corsair's cas 2.5 ddr550
    Video Card : Either a 6800gt with a non-reference copper hsf (and preferably non-green pcb ) or an ati x800pro vivo (asus' has a nice hsf )...either pci express or agp versions depending on the mobo
    Case and PSU :OCZ Powerstream 420 watt psu, Kingwin KT-424-BK-WM

    well im also waiting for nforce 4 but that was neither here nor there..

    i figured they are pretty much both the same but i was wondering which one people might buy.. im edging towards the FX cpu and then all the rest of the stuff as well.. but again, still waiting for the nforce 4 and maybe (if its around when im upgrading) the R520 or maybe one of the 'newer' models that are coming out shortly.. who knows?

    I have decided that I'm going to stick with the PCI/AGP standard a little longer, so I've ordered the following new hardware over the past couple days...

    Athlon 64 3500 90nm
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
    XFX Dual DVI 6800 GT

    Now I have to find a new home for my current hardware. Sad to see such nice hardware go

    Ya, I wouldn't get any of them either. The video cards are good, but Albatron??? Get gainward. For the x800 you should get VIVO if u wanna flash it.

    That is a really great card, but it's still $9.99 more than I paid! I can't compete in 3DMark05 with a card that doesn't have PS3.0. I know there is no real world benifit to PS3 yet, but there is bragging benifit in 3DMark

    i dont really understand why you upgraded again!! wasnt the 9800 pro and so on fast enough!??!?!

    i dunno, here i am just about getting along with a xp1800 and so on, whilst youre upgrading every two minutes!!! i dunno...
