Thanks guys ... I am trying to really push this QX with a single HD4870 X2 to see where it can go.

Would one of the mods kindly post this score? I know it will soon fall to the wayside, but I would like to at least have it in listings ... thanks!

The score has been posted. It's about 2K away from the top! Your i7 should make that up.

Out of curiosity, think you could throw Vista on your rig too? Want to see how it compares now that it's a rather mature OS.

May very well do that later ... after I beat Avid's score with my QX9770

LOL...my score that is 2K higher than yours was run on Vista . Beating me on XP won't really mean anything! I bench on Vista because that's what I use. Vista is a better OS than XP, so I'm not going to hold myself back like Phill just to get a few more points on an older OS.

Well Avid, XP is what real benchers use so by using Vista your shooting yourself in the foot as benchmarks re for speed nothing else.. Vista just slows things down.. Oh and why then bench on XP in the first place with the i7 if your gonna use Vista in the first place??
I use XP rather than Vista and I'm so glad I do!!

I knew you'd come out with something Avid, you always do!!

AK Thats a nice score I've not yet tried overclocking the X2 as I wanted to see what the card could do with just a fast as possible CPU, but I'm gonna have a play to see what it can manage

I'm no prefessional bencher. Neither are you. I buy my hardware for actual gaming, which I do on a daily basis for at least a couple hours after work. My rig is fully functional, and not just a platform for benchmarking.

I used XP x4 initially because it takes 20 minutes to install. I had to redownload Vista from Microsoft and burn it, but I wanted to get some initial benches going. XP x4 is full of little quirks and some things don't work right. It was the best option before Vista SP1. Now Vista SP1 is the best option for daily use.

You will find that overclocking the card doesn't result in much of a performance increase.

Hell no I'm not a professional bencher, but damn I do half love doing it

Why do you think I'm always playing with OLD hardware!! I get enjoyment out of it and plus I finally build some half decent rigs with it which I give to people

I only use XP for everday use and I'd hate to use Vista as I find it slow, annoying and frustrating to use. Plus I hate having to verify everything I do.. Even after disabling that UAE or whatever it is... I aint got the time of day for Vista!!

I know the X2 performs hardly any different when overclocking it but if it gives me a few points to be ahead of you or AK then its all the better

Oh question - Since the i7 doesnt really give a huge increase in gaming and you said you use your rig for gaming, why do you have an i7 and not a QX or something else?? Why spend a load of cash on a rig that your not really getting the best from??

Once you disable UAE you shouldn't really be prompted for anything that XP wouldn't prompt you for. You should give the OS a try with all the latest updates. With ready boost and such, Vista actually runs smoother than XP for day to day operations.

I was refering to useing XP just to run 3DMark. Since I use my system for actual gaming (among other things), Vista is the better choice IMO.

I might give it a try but after an hour or so, I'm into gaming and I know that Vista does suck a bit more juice than XP so for that, I'm sticking with it for now

But maybe I'll give it a go when I've beaten AK's results... He might be happier after than that

Oh do we bench in XP or Vista?? If you say that on the sub forum as a requirement we'll have to do as it says

You can bench on any OS you like. Vantage is probably held with the highest regard now, so you'll need Vista for that at least. AK needs Vista for Quadfire support.

I would be in favor of changing the rules for that ... I get a bit tired trying to maintain two rigs (OSes - XP and Vista) for benching. I have to agree with Avid on that Vista is a better day to day OS. My only reason for not using it on my 24/7 rig is that many of my Adobe apps (CS3) don't play nice with the 64-bit version of Vista. I'd hate to lose my stuff when trying to switch over. Other than that, I can't see a reason to stay with XP ...

Anyone else want to chime in?

Yeah I've already got Vantage and PC Mark for Vista... Its a little hard on the PC I'll give it that!! Gonna try and run those tests at some point soon. Managed to run it with the 8800GT and the 4850 graphics cards so it'll be nice to see what it can manage with this one

I didnt like the Vantage test all that much mind

Oh does that go for cooling too? So it dont matter what we use?? Just thought I'd ask whilst we was decussing the OS platforms....

I had no issues with CS3 Production Suite or whatever it's called. All the apps worked fine. I'm running CS4 now which has a 64bit Photoshop but for some unknown reason it runs extremely slow, as though my CPU is like 500MHz. No idea why. I might reformat my PC over the holidays though so maybe that'll fix things.

And for the record, is UAC not UAE and its XP x64 not XP x4. Neither of you corrected those mistakes
