Default Weird question about monitors.

So I started thinking about this since I can never afford one of these if there are any how to websites for monitors mods. I'm basically thinking about one day going for a triple monitor setup since monitors are becoming dirt cheap, but I don't really like having my image broken up/distorted and seeing those big black border lines cutting through it. Looking at this for example you can see that the monitor itself once opened up has virtually no edges. So I was thinking maybe there's a site dedicated to this (which I haven't been able to find yet) and maybe someone here knows about it.

Basically I want to make something like this or as close to this as possible.

That was weird.

But wait, why do you need all that visual? Oh N/M.....I would like to have that too.

I thought about grabbing a Samsung TOC T240HD for $239 . to go with my T260

Nova I've never seen anyone make one off the shelf. I've taken apart my fair share of LCD deisplays and they all have a gap at the edge of the LCD. So even if you did take them out of their case, there is still a metal frame to deal with.

And Comixon, I actually am considering picking up a 3rd monitor because my work takes up both of my two. And I would like another for video, chats, music whatever.

It is photoshopped, apparently some company was trying to get funding to build monitors like that in 06 but it never happened.

I was merely trying to get the screen to screen space reduced to a minimum, I don't care if there's going to be something obstructing my view, but I do care when it's 2 inches of plastic in two different places.

in that case it shouldn't be hard to merge 3X21" monitors together, just take them apart like some of the review sites did.

The problem is with the CCFL lights.

It mounts on the four sides of the monitors, thus even if you remove the monitors bezels there would be gaps due to the ccfl.........

I don't know about LED-backlit LCD monitor though, never taken them apart before. If they're mounted on the back of the LCD (not the sides), then it would have the smallest gap possible between multiple monitors

The LED backlit displays I've seen do have a grid of LEDs behind the display. Not off to the sides. This is what makes the displays so nice, as they can turn off the LED in the darker areas of the image making them REALLY high contrast (LGs is currently 2,000,000 to 1). However it has it's own set of downfalls but I wont get into that right now.

I agree with Nova- multi monitors is awesome, but having a big gap in between the viewing areas really kills it. Building a monitor like the one in the image Nova posted wouldn't be terribly expensive (cost of construction would likely be on-par with three individual normal-sized monitors) and would be hugely better than running 3 individual monitors. Due to the pricing advantage; it would definitely out-sell the curved screen that (Alienware?) is making.

I've got a wallet that's practically welded shut, and even I would willingly fork out around $750 for a display like that.

I've never even seen an LED backlit desktop monitor The LED backlit display on my M1330, though, is AMAZING - the color/contrast blows my (admittedly aging) Viewsonic LCD away. I'm pretty sure the back lighting on the M1330 panel is via a row of LEDs at the bottom of the screen. It just seems too thin for them to have put an array of LEDs behind the panel, even if they were surface mount ones.

Dell has some. Devils00Champs owns one for that matter (the 24" one).

LG has one as well. And you would be surprised how thin an LED array can be.

Oh, yeah, I know LED backlit monitors exist - I flirted with the idea of buying a 24" LG one a while ago, they're only around $350 on Newegg. I've just never actually physically seen one in person, so I don't know for sure how an LED desktop monitor looks (as in just HOW good is the quality, etc). I'm sure they blow the quality of my laptop's screen away.
