DivX Encoding

If any of you are interested in video capturing then please help me:

When encoding a DVD into DivX sometimes it comes out deinterlaced and the picture is all messed up. Obviously you can fix this by using interpolating tools. But the queation I am asking is that some DVD require even interlacing and some reequire odd. I want to know if there is any easy way of telling what interpolation the DVD requires without having to test the different settings.

If you're using DivX 5.0.2, you can enable "all frames are interlaced" in the DivX encoding options and not have to worry about it. The odd and even settings you speek of are both deinterlacing methods. Deinterlacing will make it look like crap unless you have some sort of filter running.

If you're not using 5.0.2, I recomend you get it. It blows everything else away!

Hey Iceman, I believe I found a better way.

I found that sometimes the "all frames are interlaced" setting didn't do much good. I experamented with it a bit and found that (in xmpeg) the deinterlacing settings, 2-frame odd/even, put out pretty natural looking frames. You might want to try those. An easy way to tell if it should be even or odd is to set it, then just simply scan around the preview to see if it looks messed up. If so, you just switch it from odd to even, or whichever. (This is assuming you're using flask or xmpeg)
