Active X and IE 5.5 SP2
I have ActiveX disabled in IE 5.5 SP2 using Win98SE. Now, since M$ wants to force everyone to run their software, I am provided an alert box reminding me I have Active X turned off whenever I visit a page with ActiveX:
"Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly."
How do I stop this alert while continuing to use IE 5.5 and continuing to have ActiveX disabled. Is there a registry switch or something?

There might be, but I am not aware of it. I tried searching, but came up with mostly exploit articles. Why do still have IE 5.5 man? It was buggy as hell IMO.

OK OK....well..... Damn.
Internet Explorer 5.0 On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options. On the Security tab, click Internet. Click Default Level, and then click OK. If the issue continues to occur, follow these steps: On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options. On the Security tab, click Internet, and then click Custom Level. Under Download Signed ActiveX Controls, click Enable or Prompt. Click OK, and then click Yes. Click OK. If the issue continues to occur, reinstall Internet Explorer from the following Microsoft Web site: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie

I dunno CHE, theres compatability flags in the activeX reg folder, but I dont think theres any help there. Course im using different OS and IE than you, but check out localmachine/software/ms/internetexplorer/advancedoptions, those keys seem to be pretty close to controlling messages like that, again im sure yours is different than mine though. I think you should take this up with Bill, the bastard

CHE, do you use NIS2002 or any other norton product? I found this, but it may not help you....dunno.
[HKEY_USERS.DEFAULTSoftwareSymantecIAMSoftwareSyman tecIAMDialogOptions] "DefaultActiveXAlertOption"=dword:00000000
At least you may be able to search for "activexalert" and it may pull up something useful in the registry.

Change the value of the Compatibility Flags DWORD value to 00000400.
I was pretty close, there were just so many compatability flags....
