Default ks.sys blue screen error

My system is pentium 4 1.7 GHz windows xp home edition 2002 512 MB of RAM The mainboard includes a mPGA Socket 478 that has the following features Supports up to a 400 MHz front side bus (FSB) The chipset on the mainboard includes the VT8753 Northbridge and VT8233 Southbridge Additional features include support for six USB ports an AC 97 llink for audio and modem, hardware monitoring and ACPI/OnNow power management. The mainboard accommodates three 184 pin 2.5V DDR DIMM sockets with a total capacity of 3 GB (registered) 1.5 GB (unbuffered) I have a GeFore3 Ti200 graphic card . The mainboard uses Award BIOS . The problem is that when I try to stream a radio from the Internet it plays for a while and then I get a blue screen. This also happens when I play a audio cd or play a movie on the computer. It is always the same ks.file blue screen error. I have tried everything to solve this problem but with no luck. I could be on the Internet browsing and reading newspapers and all sorts of things and this does not happen. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to PCStats, Rose!!!

Have you recently allowed Windows Update to update any drivers on your computer, or do you have your Windows Update to update automatically? I've read around that the ks.sys file may be corrupted by Windows Update. You might try downloading a copy of ks.sys from the internet (there are websites that allow you to download each system file separated like windll.com, but they usually charge you for it), or if you have another computer with a working copy of Windows XP Home on it (maybe a family member or a friend's), you can copy it from there. The file should be located in the C:\Windows\system32\drivers folder or the C:\Windows\Driver Cache\i386 folder. Just copy the file into the same directory on your system and try rebooting. Let us know if this solves your problem.
